TxETA Higher Education Research Conference
2023 Call for Submissions
May 31-June 2, 2023; Austin Community College – Highland Campus
The Texas Educational Theatre Association invites proposals for paper, roundtable, and poster/digital presentations for the 2nd Annual Higher Education Research Conference
“KEEP THEATRE WEIRD COLLABORATIVE”
This theme/prompt can and should be interpreted broadly, encompassing all forms and ideas of the ways in which theatre practice and scholarship responds to the need for community. As the larger TxETA theme states, we are “Better Together.” Proposal topics may include:
- How can we, as a collective theatre community, foster better collaborative professional and scholarly practices?
- How can we, as innovative collaborators, create work that is both more sustainable and more satisfying?
- How can we think beyond the normal production team and workloads? How else can we leverage alternative collaborations and partnerships?
- In what ways do new technologies allow for alternative collaborations?
- What theatre practitioners/scholars have shone new light on the idea of collaboration, historically and today?
- In a scholarly field that has long been predominantly single-authored, how might we rethink research to be more collaborative in execution and presentation?
Although special consideration will be given to papers, poster/digital presentation proposals, and/or roundtables with a focus on the theme of “Keep Theatre Weird Collaborative,” consideration will be given to all proposals of theatre-related topics. To keep with the spirit of this theme, we encourage collaborative presentations, multi-authored papers, and panels of various types.
Please email abstract proposal submissions in Word format to the Higher Education Research Conference Committee Chair, Dr. Thomas A. Oldham – thomas.oldham@tamucc.edu. All abstract proposal submissions must be received via email by April 1, 2023, for acceptance consideration.
Proposals should include:
- Name
- School or Organization Affiliation
- Email address
- Title of the paper
- 150-250 word abstract
- A brief bio.
Undergraduate students and/or graduate students who have never presented scholarly work at a conference should submit to the “Scholar’s Debut Panel” (call sent separately).
