Call for Papers
The Philadelphia Theatre Research Symposium (PTRS) is seeking abstracts for papers for our 13th annual gathering of theatre scholars and practitioners. The Villanova Theatre Department together with the American Theatre and Drama Society will host this two-day event that will consist of paper presentations and roundtables. This year’s symposium aims to investigate adaptation in theatre creation. We are seeking papers that engage a broad range of topics in theatre and drama studies including, but not limited to:
- Adapting the Novel
- Revisions of Classical Texts
- Adapting Theatrical Practices
- Approaches and Processes for Adaptation
- Adaptation and Globalization
- Translation and Adaptation

About Elevator Repair Service
Elevator Repair Service is an award-winning theatre ensemble founded in 1991. The company’s many awards include an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence; The Theatre Communications Group’s Peter Zeisler Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement; and Lucille Lortel Awards for Alternative Theatrical Experience, Outstanding Director and Outstanding Design. ERS’s work combines a broad range of sources from found material to literature and conventional plays with elements of slapstick comedy mixed with their own unique style of design and choreography. ERS has authored an extensive body of work including 19 original theatrical productions. Recent works include Everyone’s Fine with Virginia Woolf and Gatz.
About PTRS
The goal of PTRS is to provide a forum for theatre scholars and practitioners to share their research and work in order to enter into a dialogue about current trends in theatrical practice and scholarship.
Additionally, PTRS seeks to provide a platform for the works of emerging theatre scholars. Panels will consist of paper presentations of 15-20 minutes and will be moderated by a scholar and/or practitioner.
Please submit abstracts of 250 words or less along with a brief bio to 2019PTRS@gmail.com.
