August Wilson in Context
CALL FOR CHAPTERS
August Wilson in Context
Edited by Khalid Y. Long and Isaiah Matthew Wooden
The co-editors of August Wilson in Context (currently under contract with Cambridge University Press) are seeking additional chapter contributors. The volume aims to grant Wilson and his singular body of work nuanced critical and contextual analyses. To that end, it will bring together an interdisciplinary and intergenerational mix of scholars and artists to provide fresh and compelling insights about Wilson’s life, practices, and contributions as a playwright and public intellectual. Each chapter in the volume will explicate the conditions and circumstances that informed and enhanced the making of Wilson’s artistic output, while also situating Wilson and his work in broader social, cultural, political, and aesthetic contexts.
We are soliciting abstracts for chapters that provide greater context for any aspect of Wilson’s life and career. Chapters that explore Wilson and music, Wilson and Black religiosity, Wilson and magical realism, and Wilson and visual culture are of particular interest.
Submit short abstracts (250-300 words) to augustwilsoncontext@gmail.com by February 20, 2023. Full chapter drafts of 3500-4000 words are due by May 1, 2023.
Please contact co-editors Khalid Y. Long and Isaiah M. Wooden at augustwilsoncontext@gmail.com with any questions.
